Barton Institute Welcomes Two New Team Members
We are thrilled to welcome two exceptional individuals to The Barton Institute for Community Action. Carolyne Ash and Howard Deng both bring a wealth of experience, passion, and commitment to our mission of fostering community-driven solutions that address some of society’s most pressing challenges. Their dynamic backgrounds and skills will enhance our ability to make meaningful, lasting impacts in the communities we serve.
Carolyne Ash
Director of Programs and Communications
Carolyne Ash steps into the role of Director of Programs and Communications, bringing with her 17 years of experience in Denver’s social change sector. Her background includes pivotal roles at Denver Urban Matters, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado, and Point b(e) Strategies. Carolyne has a proven track record in equitable and inclusive program development, strategic planning, fund development, executive coaching, community organizing, and policy advocacy.
Carolyne also serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work, where she teaches courses on social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. When not at work, Carolyne enjoys spending time with her partner Brittanie, wrangling their young daughter and puppy, watching women’s basketball, and working on home improvement projects. She holds a BA in Women’s Studies and International Studies from the University of Iowa and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan.
Howard Deng
Staff Accountant
Howard Deng is the Staff Accountant at The Barton Institute for Community Action, where he assists with the accounting functions and collaborate in special projects and initiatives.
Howard brings 4 years of professional accounting experience in business and law and is passionate about applying these skills to a new kind of philanthropy. Howard is from China and has lived in Colorado for 10 years. He loves to listen to people from different cultures and share opinions. He has a BA in accounting from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and a MS in Software Engineering from Regis University in Denver. In his spare time, he likes to play basketball, go hiking and camping. He also cooks authentic Chinese food.
