Colorado Safe Parking Initiative: Expanding to meet the Growing Need

From CSPI staff

By the end of 2022, the Colorado Safe Parking Initiative (CSPI) will operate 15 SafeLots for people experiencing homelessness and living in their vehicles. A second lot is opening in Denver, and new lots in Aurora and Commerce City will be the first to operate on commercial properties.

Also for the first time, CSPI has hired a part-time Lot Operator to open and close one of the lots each day, ensure the space is maintained, and ensure that guests follow agreements. Our Lot Operator is a guest in a current lot. They will help prepare the new lot and will move there once it’s ready. We’re gratified to partner with our guests in the implementation of our program.

Colorado Safe Parking's Impact

The need for this work continues to grow: More than 800 people have reached out for help from CSPI since July. Over this year, CSPI has hosted more than 300 households from across metro Denver. Happily, more than 90 families and individuals are now in new homes, with the support of CSPI and our partners. CSPI has been on a fast growth trajectory, which will undoubtedly continue.

The funding we receive from local governments across Metro Denver, while vital, won’t cover many of the essential services our clients need to be successful. If you want to learn more about CSPI, or are moved to offer a financial gift, please visit our website, or reach out to our new Executive Director, Terrell Curtis: terrell@colosafeparking.org.
