Colorado Safe Parking Initiative
This time of year, many of us look forward to curling up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate as the snow swirls outside of our windows. This picture looks very different if your couch is the back seat of a car.
The Colorado Safe Parking Initiative works with churches and businesses in Metro Denver to provide safe places to park overnight for people who are living in their vehicles. Today, there are thirteen lots serving more than 100 households. Case managers work with the parking lot guests every day to help them take the next steps toward stability, including long-term housing.
In the meantime, when the weather turns much worse, temperatures plummet, and snow flies, CSPI works diligently to help these folks who are sheltering in their vehicles to get into a hotel room for the night. The resources for this critical need come in large part through generous gifts from community members, churches, and businesses.
How can you help?
Are you part of a group or business that has a holiday party? If so, do you ever pick a charitable beneficiary? Your friends and colleagues can feel great about helping keep their neighbors warm by giving.
Do you attend a church that invites in speakers or takes up special offerings? We have people who are eager to share their stories and can join you to do this.
